Gorka Izagirre’s range of wines rated “excellent” by the 2018 Peñin Guide

Gorka Izagirre and G22 white wines given five stars out of five on price-quality relationship.

The most influential Spanish wine publication, Peñin Guide has been just released online on its 2018 edition. The team working for this guide tasted and rated over 11.500 wines from the bigger companies to the smaller family run wineries given the whole picture of the Spanish wine industry.

Each of the Gorka Izagirre wines have being given a score superior to 90 points and therefore qualified as “excellent” by the guide. Among the wines, G22 magnun 2013 has been awarded 93 points thus being the biggest score of a D.O. Bizkaiko Txakolina wine at this year list. Together with Arima late harvest 2014, 92 points and 42 by Eneko Atxa 2014, 91 points, the average score for the winery results in 91,6 points. This mark is a reward for the winery and its years of hard work pursuing superior quality.

Peñin Guide 2018 tasted wines are:

G22 Magnum 2013: 93 points Q/P 5/5
Arima, late harvest 2014: 92 points Q/P 4/5
G22 2014: 92 points Q/P 5/5
G22 2015: 92 points Q/P 5/5
42 By Eneko Atxa 2014: 91 points Q/P 0/5
Gorka Izagirre 2016: 90 points Q/P 5/5

Tasted wines have been marked with high value for money rates too. Gorka Izagirre 2016 and all three G22 vintages scored five out of five stars.

This high rating asserts the winery on its aim on producing the wines with local grape varieties hondarribi zerratia and hondarrabi zuri. Working the grapes with moderation, patience at their ripening and long periods fining on the lees, give as a result, a wine where their fresh acidity integrates perfectly on its ageing, and a fantastic capacity of evolution.

2013 vintage G22’s 93 points score at the Peñin Guide 2018 and the international prizes the wine has collect during this last year are clear indicators that the winery has been working on the right direction and we hope the evolutionary nature of the wines can bring us many more recognitions the following years.
